UFO Explained....

The music of tomorrow relies on respecting the artists of today.
You�ve heard of the campaign for real ale, �CAMRA�. Well this is our campaign for real music. We operate under the guise of Urban Folk Organization or UFO. Our aim is to promote all those artists who work so incredibly hard to achieve and express their talents to audiences worldwide. We also want to promote all the venues that actually pay the artist to perform.

There are a lot of people degrading music and demeaning artists, making money out of their blood, sweat and tears, Fat cats who invite artists to play in their so called prestigious venues who do not pay the artist but ply them with empty promises and reap the benefits of the door and drinks takings all paid for by the 50 guests that the artist has been asked to bring along!
A good venue in the eyes of UFO, is one that advertises events in their pub and on the internet and is open to booking artists from anywhere in the world, not just the same bands week in week out. We do not wish to promote any venue that does not respect the artist and we do not wish to promote any artist that does not respect themselves as an artist worth paying for !
We at Urban Folk Organization have the personal experience of supporting young artists in our own families through the mine field of trying to make a living within the music industry. We hope that through this site, we as a community, will be able to offer and share good solid advice and help to real, working artists, and praise all those who help them. At UFO we have our own modest data bank of who we consider to be real artists and respectful venues, We are also providing a sounding board, inviting musicians, artists and music lovers to express their opinions and views on the industry at every level as well as being able to offer insight, share knowledge and give good advice. Now it is time to start searching for anyone who would like to join us. UFO is a non profit seeking organization. Thank you for popping by, spread the word, We need you!

Well, I make my living from gigging, so proper payment is vital. Also, I spent a year working for the Musicians' Union looking after Scotland and Northern Ireland, so it's a subject close to my heart!

It astounds me the number of venues/pubs/bookers who expect acts to play for free/a couple beers etc - and it pisses me off even more the number of folks that are willing to fall for it. It's so bad in Glasgow now that most of my shows in Glasgow are self-promos. Why should musicians spend years learning/practicing/writing; spend money on equipment, rehearsals, recording etc so that some fat-ass venue owner makes money and they make f*all...... I bet the bar staff, toilet attendants, gorillas on the door etc aren't working for nothing!
Anyway, I'm behind you 100%..best not to get on my soapbox or this will be the longest rant ever seen on MySpace! "

Thank you to all UFOlks who attended the first ever "UFO presents..."

The night was a gigantic success but then we have the professionals to thank for that...

(There will be a public showing of the event ((location and date tbc)) and then the DVD will become available to purchase from this site. We will keep you posted)...

And now for the big question.... Will we do it all again?

Well... yes and no, We here at UFO feel that a successful night can never be repeated, and neither should it be! But for now, we would like to announce that we are already in the early stages of planning something rather large and exciting for the not too distant future..........
